With a strong focus on education and prevention, TASK works with LTUSD to reach our community youth. TASK works with various clubs and classes to promote anti drug actives, substance prevention and education, and mental heath topics. TASK sponsors the high school’s SHINE club that inspire young leaders through healthy activities and drug prevention education. These youth participate in harm reduction activities, service projects & community outreach, and national campaigns on school campuses to promote positive, drug-free alternatives for teens.
TASK has worked with our community partners and school district to bring programs to support positive decision-making, coping skills and life skills to students in our community. TASK helped to fund and organize Soul Shoppe, an evidence based Social Emotional Learning Program, in all 4 Elementary schools. The program allows kids to build and practice conflict resolution, handling big feelings and emotions, and positive decision making skills for a healthy future.
TASK works with 4th and 5th grade classes and presents a lesson on vaping and refusal skills. The lesson includes education on what a vape pen is, what is in a vape pen, what nicotine is and how it can affect your brain and body, especially as a kid and teachers refusal skills. It touches on ways to “say No”, when saying No isn’t listened to, giving kids tools and confidence to say no to substances or risky behaviors.
TASK has also funded Challenge Days at the Middle School, creating a safe space for youth to have a voice and tackle problems in their lives and in their schools. The program supports youth on the journey of growth with positive adults in the community their to support and listen as middle schoolers talk about issues they face each day. All these programs allow students to build and practice different life skills and creates space for their voice to be heard and supports them in making change in their community.
